ABOUT US

Clan Mackay (Gaelic: Mac Aoidh) is an ancient and once-powerful clan from the far north of the Scottish Highlands.

Formed in 1808 as the 'Mackays' Society', we are one of the oldest clan societies in Scotland. The original organisation operated for some 50 years and after a period of abeyance was reconstituted in 1888 as The Clan Mackay Society.

 

The Clan Mackay Society seeks to:

  • preserve the Mackay heritage for future generations

  • create a community to bring together those with the Mackay name, and

  • cultivate a sense of pride in belonging to the Clan Mackay.

The Society is currently administered by a council of eight, with a membership made up from 11 countries around the world.  We are always looking to grow our Clan membership further - why not Join the Clan?​

The Clan Mackay Society is a registered charity. The Society's activities are solely funded by life membership fees and ad hoc donations, and made possible by the hard work of a small group of volunteers. We would always like to do more to support Mackays around the world, so if you would like to donate some of your time (or your money!) to help, it will always be gratefully received!
